Street Art Sao Paulo

Not even sure it can be considere a street art...
The message is captive all attentions around my area lately... and It can be use as a portuguese basic lesson.

"muda" means withouth the skill of speak
"muda" in portuguese also mean the changing... so "nao muda" means "doesn't change" - considering the major social and economica needs, this is a street protest spread around Sao Paulo later.

What is "bofe" in Portuguese?

Bofe is a way to refer to a man.
This expression was created by gay communities, but it is widespread nowadays.
It very usual to hear:
"Meu bofe é advogado."
It can be translate:
"My man is a lawyer."

In this context, it can mean you are dating or any other kind of modern relation people have lately...

Portuguese, a dead langague or not?

I was nicely surprised when I saw that the King's College is looking for a Portuguese Professor! Not just the King's College, I could verify is a more broad event... so, I want to say public... sorry for calling Portuguese a dead languagefor the last 10 years! Life surprise you, Brazil surprise you.

Economic and culturally, we are being empowered... there is no way to understand a cultural without language, so... the maths are easy:
Economic attractive makes calls the cultural understand of a certain country be studied - conclusion: portuguese is alive!

Difference between eat a bread and a person?

"Comer" in portuguese is eat.

Ex:
Eu comi pão.
I ate bread.

In a coloquial way, when the verb is follow for an animated substantive, it means "fuck".
Ex:
Eu comi ela.
I fucked her.

I know there is the same in German, but is a particular verb used for eating something sweet. So, the concept is the same...

GBR - Gatinha Baixa Renda

Translation: pretty girl with a low income.
This word is full of prejudice against some part of population. The issue is that they really exist. I learnt with my boyfriend, the concept doesn't attach to the real meaning.
Two basic behavior:
1- A pretty girl just talk with you at the end of the night, for you volutaring pay here bill. You may have what you want or not (sex - is not included).
2- Your first date, the girl will ask for the most expensive dish - not because she liked it but she wants something really rich.

How hard is to "push" for a brazilian...

I just know that I am well adapted to living away from Brazil, when I see the "push" and I don't pull.
"Puxe" in Portuguese, same sound for "push" in English means "pull"!!!

What is a X9?

Sometimes portuguese get difficult even for me... I went to Tropa de Elite 2 and some lines I just could not understand. No problem, they are from Rio... but when my boyfriend told me: X9! I got really puzzled, how policial and prision languages are now in normal conversation. Portuguese as any language is alive...
I am really glad Cassio spent his childhood and teenager years in one of most dangerous areas in Sao Paulo... he is really good in all this translation.

X9 is the one who tells a secret in some favor, like Judah in the Bible.

Fake Cognates = Fake Friends - Spanish/Portuguese

This is a classic mistake for who speaks "Portunhol" - Portuguese and Spanish (Espanhol).

Embaraçada in Portuguese is ashamed (just for female).
Estou embaraçada!
I'm ashamed.

Embarazada in Spanish is pregnant.
Estoy embarazada!
I'm pregnant!

Fake Cognates - French/Portuguese

Even reading and understanting French fluently (speaking just when I am in good mood), I get confused with "et pourtant" or just "pourtant".

In French - POURTANT is almost like "but" in English, giving a concession idea.
Ex:
"J'adore la langue française pourtant je ne parle pas bien."
I loved the french language BUT I didn´t speak well.

In Portuguese - PORTANTO is "hence" or "so". It is a coordenative conjucntion.
Ex:
Eu adoro a língua francesa portanto eu falo bem.
I love the french language so I speak well.

Sorry for my french mistakes, my english mistakes... spanish is missing everything in my mind lately, but I hope you got my point.

What's mean "Bahhh, tchê!" in Brazil?

Or "Bahhhh, tchê!"
It's a interjection for everything used in South of Brazil, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul (extremely south).

It can mean:
- Bahhh, tchê! (Nice too see you!).
- Bahhh, tchê! (I am surprise with this news!)
- Bahhh, tchê! (Fuck...)
It can occur with the "tchê" or not.

The most impressive they are outsite the stage, in the hall of the theater and people stayed in the stairs sing with then. It was my more emotional event there, and considere I got my medical diploma in this theater.

Piriguete?

Complete new word in Portuguese: A PIRIGUETE!
As vocabulary is regulary updated by people and social/cultural new trends.
Piriguete is a new word for ladies with not exactly a lady manners. The word comes from PERIGO = DANGEROUS.

Normally, extremely dressing in a sexy way, bad people would say they are vulgar. They act seductively, the target are guys with some money to pay drinks or other stuff, even a marriage! They act in several levels
There are not prostitutes! The deal is tender, not contractual as usual hookers. The guy will pay because there is a possibility of ... sex?

They said is a low income girls, I disagree because there is high society piriguetes. I say is low self-steem girls..

Tricky!

I learnt that some words are really tricky to correct pronounce in other languages for non native speakers.
Like cherry, church and kitchen in German - Kirsche, Küche and Kirche  - sounds like the same for me!
It can cause some confusion if you aren't really sure about your desires, example in Portuguese:


Pão= bread (more nasal)
Pau= stick or dick...

Try to make sure you ask for the right product at the bakery.
